Title: Requires Schools Complete Comprehensive Reviews of Their School Safety and Emergency Response Plans
Vote to pass a bill that requires school districts to complete a comprehensive review of their school safety and emergency response plans and submit the review to law enforcement before the 2024-2025 school year in the state of Iowa.
Requires school districts to complete a comprehensive review of their school safety and emergency response plans and submit the review to law enforcement before the 2024-2025 school year in the state of Iowa (Sec. 1-8).
Establishes a fund to install radios capable of accessing the Statewide Interoperable Communications System in all school buildings that do not currently have them in the state (Sec. 1-8).
Establishes a school safety and security infrastructure task force that will study and make recommendations related to the safety and security standards of schools and school infrastructure (Sec. 1-8).
Appropriates $3 million for a pilot program for the implementation of firearm detection software in 3 schools of different sizes throughout the state (Sec. 1-8).
Establishes a task force to create and recommended school safety standards in building codes beginning in 2026 school year (Sec. 1-8).
Requires that under this bill schools are required to meet those safety standards before using any SAVE funds on athletic facility projects (Sec. 1-8).
Specifies that the provisions of this bill shall take effect immediately upon passage and approval by the governor (Sec. 10).
