Title: Reduces Amount of Jurors Needed for Agreement on Death Sentences
Vote to pass a bill that reduces the amount of juries needed to confirm a death sentence for an individual.
Amends the amount of juries needed to determine if a criminal defendant shall receive the death penalty to eight (Sec. 1).
Specifies that if fewer than eight jurors recommend the death penalty then the defendant shall be sentenced to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole (Sec. 1).
Specifies that the court on receiving the recommendation from at least eight jurors must request an aggravating factor beyond a reasonable doubt for the death penalty that must be agreed upon unanimously by the jury (Sec. 1).
Specifies that if the court does not agree with the jury sentencing recommendation then it must make a written order on the reasoning why it does not accept the jury's sentencing recommendation (Sec. 1).
