Today, Congressman Tim Walz (D-MN) released the following statement after voting in favor of a short-term highway bill extension, the only option Republican leadership put forward:

"I voted in favor of this bill because I believe we need to keep moving the ball forward, but I do not support its short-term nature. Unfortunately, however, it isn't shocking; since the majority took over, they have failed over and over again to put forward long-term solutions to fix our aging transportation system. This short-term patch demonstrates, yet again, a complete lack a vision by the Tea Party Republican led House.

"It's past time to have the tough conversation about how we're going to fund and fix our crumbling infrastructure system. Whether that's by limiting corporate inversions, raising the federal gas tax for the first time in over 20 years, using my plan to take royalty payments from off-shore oil drilling and invest them back into transportation and clean, all-American energy, or by some other means, the time for bold action is now."
