Cramer Statement on Supreme Court Same Sex Marriage Ruling

Press Release

Date: June 26, 2015
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Marriage

Today, Congressman Kevin Cramer released the following statement after the U.S. Supreme Court's Decision legalizing Same Sex Marriage nationwide.

"This was another example of activist judges overstepping their authority. Yesterday they said Congress' words don't matter and rewrote Obamacare. Now they've said states and the 10th Amendment don't matter and rewrote state laws. The current Justices of the Supreme Court, like our president, have no regard for the people or their representatives in the Congress or the state houses across the country. It seems there are no longer three "co-equal' branches of government but rather an imperial presidency supported by nine Lords in black robes," said Cramer.

In 2004, 73% of the voters of North Dakota voted in favor of a ballot measure defining marriage as between a man and woman.
