Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Dan Kildee (MI-05) received the Political Pride award from Perceptions Saginaw Valley at their annual LGBT and Ally Pride Awards Banquet last night in Saginaw. The award recognizes Congressman Kildee's work in Congress fighting for equality and LGBT rights, including marriage equality.

Perceptions Saginaw Valley is a non-profit organization dedicated to serving the LGBT community and its allies. Through educational, networking, and service programs, it seeks to strengthen the community and address its needs.

"It's an honor to be recognized by Perceptions Saginaw Valley as an LGBT ally," Congressman Kildee said. "Perceptions is a great organization that has helped to educate and advocate on behalf of LGBT rights in Michigan and across the country. We have made great progress toward full equality, but there is still work to be done to ensure that all Americans, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity, are treated fairly under the law."

Congressman Kildee serves as a Vice Chair on the Congressional LGBT Equality Caucus, a working group dedicated to supporting LGBT rights. He has also fought to strike down Michigan's marriage ban, which is currently being considered by the U.S. Supreme Court, with a decision expected in days. Perceptions also applauded Congressman Kildee for his strong support of a federal Employee Non-Discrimination Act that would prevent members of the LGBT community from being fired from their jobs because of their orientation.

"The Saginaw Valley Pride Banquet is a wonderful event that recognizes individuals, businesses, and groups who understand and commit themselves to the issues of diversity and inclusion in the Great Lakes Bay Region," Chair of Perceptions Saginaw Valley Chris Lauckner said. "As a nation, I believe we are moving toward genuine equality and tolerance is giving way to acceptance. Congratulations to Congressman Dan Kildee for being nominated and selected to receive this year's award. "

Congressman Kildee was unable to attend Tuesday night's event due to votes in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington. However, he recorded his acceptance speech to be played at the event. T
