Iowa 3rd District Congressman David Young wrapped up a week of mainstreeting over the weekend.

On Thursday, Young visited with business leaders in Emerson. Then on Friday morning he stopped by to talk with citizens at the new SCIA office at the Corner of Elm and Sheridan in downtown Shenandoah. Young tells KMA News he loves getting the opportunity to visit with constituents across the 3rd District.

"I'm only in DC when I have to be there and that's when we are in session and voting. You know the 3rd District is home and this is where I'm most comfortable. These are my people and these are my bosses."

Young summarized the message he heard during his southwest Iowa swing.

"You get a sense of what you think people are thinking and talking about. But you have to ask them and you have to listen to them. And they want a level playing field. The small business owners I talked to they want a level playing field. They want to know what the rules are going to be years out, not just two or three years but give them a decade or two. And they want to know what the tax policy will be. They want certainty, they want permanence in the tax code so they can plan for their business and create jobs and deliver a great product."

Young says one of the hottest topics he heard was concern over the bird flu epidemic that has swept through part of Iowa. The Van Meter Republican says layers and producers are in his thoughts and prayers.

"You know this is a small business issue as well. We think about the birds but then behind that, these are people. And behind that this is our rural livelihood and it's our economy. We'll bounce back from this. It's pretty devastating I know that. I'm here to support the layers and producers. We have to also remember that we keep our perspective on this regarding the virus itself that it's only the birds, it does not effect humans. We need heat, right? We need five days of hot weather and sunlight because that's going to burn it away."

Following his stop in Shenandoah on Friday, Young spent time with businessmen and women in Adams County.
