Hudson Statement on the Supreme Court's Decision on Marriage

Press Release

Date: June 26, 2015
Location: Washington, D.C.

Today, U.S. Representative Richard Hudson (NC-08) released the following statement in response to the U.S. Supreme Court's ruling on Obergefell v. Hodges:

"Driven by my faith, I believe that all human beings are created equal by God and should be treated with love, kindness and respect. However, I am extremely disappointed in the Supreme Court's ruling that denies North Carolina's voter-imposed decision to define marriage as the union between one man and one woman. By forcing states to redefine the institution of marriage, this ruling marginalizes the will of the people and the democratic principles our nation is founded upon.

"I join many North Carolinians in expressing frustration and I agree that marriage is and should remain a sacred vow between one man and one woman. I will continue to defend the sanctity of traditional marriage and fight to protect religious freedom and the conscience rights of individuals, families and organizations in our community."
