Issue Position: High Speed Rail

I am a strong supporter of projects that improve public transportation options for Californians that make financial sense, but the High Speed Rail project is becoming one of the biggest public works blunders in American history. Slated to cost over $68 billion, the latest plan is unrecognizable from what the voters approved in 2008 and simply ignores the assurances that were promised. This is just the latest example of why government often cannot be trusted to keep its word. Instead of investing huge amounts of taxpayer dollars into High Speed Rail, California should invest this money into its schools, roads and improved law enforcement that will be an infinitely better investment. I believe we should present the issue once again to the voters to see if they support High Speed Rail in its current proposed form.
