Governor Hassan's Statement on Senate Bill 113

Statement

Date: April 24, 2015
Location: Concord, NH

Governor Maggie Hassan issued the following statement today on Senate Bill 113, relative to video lottery and table gaming:

"Over the past several days, I have had an opportunity to review Senate Bill 113 with the House amendment. I continue to believe that a one-casino plan is in the best interest of New Hampshire and that there is market analysis to support that. However, the House amendment to Senate Bill 113 is an improvement and compromise that does not allow for two simultaneously issued licenses and ensures that there is thorough evaluation and oversight by both the legislature -- and the market -- before an additional license can be issued.

"With this robust process, I believe that this amendment is a step in the right direction to put the proper safeguards in place to protect the best interests of our state. While there are still significant steps ahead in the legislative process, I am pleased that there continues to be bipartisan cooperation to move this bill forward. I remain committed to working together to pass legislation that will protect New Hampshire, create jobs and ensure that revenue that would otherwise go to Massachusetts can be invested here in New Hampshire in our priorities, and I am likely to sign Senate Bill 113 with the House committee amendment."
