Labrador Statement on Court's Blocking President Executive Amnesty

Statement

Date: Feb. 17, 2015
Location: Meridian, ID

Rep. Raúl Labrador, R-Idaho, issued the following statement after Monday night's order by U.S. District Judge Andrew Hanen staying implementation of President Obama's executive action on immigration:

"President Obama has abandoned his fundamental constitutional duty to faithfully execute the laws of the United States and usurped the authority of Congress to make immigration law. Judge Hanen's order is a step toward restoring the proper balance between our three branches of government.

"Stalling the president's executive action will shield the states from being forced to deal with up to 5 million immigrants seeking government services and benefits. As the judge wrote, "Once these services are provided, there will be no effective way of putting the toothpaste back in the tube.'

"Additionally, as I've been saying for the last few months, the president's actions are illegal because he failed to comply with the basic requirements for notice and comment under the Administrative Procedure Act. I'm pleased Judge Hanen agrees."
