Statement from Congressman Denny Heck (WA-10) Regarding 2015 State of the Union Address

Statement

Date: Jan. 20, 2015
Location: Washington, DC

Following President Obama's State of the Union address to Congress, Representative Denny Heck of Washington's 10th Congressional District released the following statement:

"While we have successfully inched our way out of recession, both parties can agree that we can do more to prevent a crisis of slow growth from holding our economy back. As a member of the House Financial Services Committee, I will be watching closely as we evaluate the best way to build a strong financial system, and encourage smart investment.

"I support ideas that move us forward, rather than fighting to dismantle or repeal common-sense laws that protect the middle class. Now that our economy is moving in the right direction, let's help it even more by working to end sequestration, pass comprehensive immigration reform, renew the Export-Import Bank for the long-term, write a clear and fair tax code, revamp our housing sector, and fix the Highway Trust Fund.

"In particular, a worthy proposal on how we can fund transportation gaps--such as the completion of SR 167 and expansion of I-5 around Joint Base Lewis-McChord--could be the bipartisan infrastructure plan President Obama called for tonight.

"The state of our South Sound shows we don't have to sacrifice our health, environment, or independence to build an economy that works for everyone."
