Lujan Grisham joins Hispanic Caucus Chairwoman to mark anniversary of Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act

Statement

Congresswoman Michelle Lujan Grisham, 1st Vice Chair of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, joined CHC Chairwoman Linda T. Sánchez in celebrating the sixth anniversary of enactment of the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act. The act allows women to challenge pay discrimination in court.

"Fighting for equal pay and working to close the wage gap are priorities for me and must be priorities for this Congress as we work to ensure the economic security of America's families," Rep. Lujan Grisham said. "The Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act is a great first step, but we have more work to do to empower women, including Hispanic women, as leaders in the workplace."

"With earnings of 55 cents for every dollar made by their white male counterparts, Latina women are some of the lowest paid workers in our labor force," said Rep. Sánchez. "Fair pay for women is crucial to the economic well-being of our communities and is long overdue. As the first women to occupy the two most senior positions on the CHC, my colleague Michelle Lujan Grisham and I are committed to ensuring that all women receive equal pay. All Americans - regardless of gender - deserve to be paid fairly for the work they do."
