Peters Statement on Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals Same-Sex Marriage Decision

Statement

Date: Nov. 7, 2014
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Marriage

U.S. Representative Gary Peters (MI-14) released the following statement after the U.S. Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals upheld same-sex marriage bans in Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky and Tennessee:

"I am extremely disappointed that the U.S. Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals upheld the discriminatory bans on same-sex marriage in Michigan and three other states. With marriage equality now recognized in 32 states, this decision reminds us that the struggle for full equality requires our continued energy and commitment. It is time for the U.S. Supreme Court to step in and ensure that all couples have the right to marry. No American should face discrimination based on who they love, and I will continue working to ensure marriage equality is fully recognized and celebrated in Michigan."
