Kurtz Grills Kind About Special Interest Money

Press Release

Date: Oct. 28, 2014
Location: Prairie du Chien, WI

The first debate between 18 year incumbent Ron Kind and his challenger, first time office seeker Tony Kurtz covered several issues, but the night's takeaway could be summed up in one statement - Ron Kind is the candidate of the Washington status quo, while Tony Kurtz is the candidate for those seeking change.

Kind, who receives nearly three quarters of his multi-million dollar war chest from special interest political action committees (P.A.C.s), claimed bi-partisanship throughout the night, yet admitted to voting with his party leadership over 91% of the time. The eighteen year incumbent also compared Veterans' benefits to subsidies and claimed that ISIS wasn't a threat, characterizations that most Veterans would dispute.

The highlight of the night, however was the two candidates exchange on Obamacare.

"Ron Kind continues to stand by Obamacare, which he himself called an experiment," said Kurtz. "This experiment is failing for families across the district. I meet people everyday who are losing their coverage or seeing their rates skyrocket because of Obamacare, and it's getting worse, yet Ron Kind continues to support the bill. One can't help but wonder if that's because of the tens of thousands of dollars that big health insurance companies and big pharmaceutical companies have donated to Kind's campaign coffers."

"Tonight, we saw a marked contrast between Tony Kurtz and Ron Kind," said Kurtz campaign manager Jeff Schultz. Tony was poised, in command, and asking the questions that folks in the 3rd district want answered. The Congressman's dodging and weaving showed the political skill that comes from nearly two decades in Washington, but ultimately left people dissatisfied. Kurtz was the clear winner tonight."
