Today, Torrey Westrom, the Republican candidate for Minnesota's 7th Congressional District, released the following statement on the U.S. House of Representatives vote to pass H.R. 5078, the Waters of the United States Regulatory Overreach Protection Act of 2014:

"I applaud the House and Republican leadership for acting today to rein in the Environmental Protection Agency, which has gotten out of control. This is a top priority in Western Minnesota and I hear continually from farmers and landowners in the 7th District who are worried about the untold impact of the EPA's proposed rule. Congress is right to stand up to overregulation from federal agencies like the EPA, and to oppose government overreach that hurts working Minnesotans."

In August 2014, Westrom submitted his own comments to the EPA urging them to ditch the proposed rule. H.R. 5078, introduced by Rep. Steve Southerland, passed 262-152 and will preserve the existing rights to regulate "waters of the U.S." under the decades-old Clean Water Act.
