Issues: Education

Kim knows that a robust education system and a prosperous economy go hand in hand. Each depends on the other. That's why we need to be especially smart when funding and regulating education during this fragile economic recovery; 1) Education is a priority so it should be funded first, and 2) We should give local school districts the ability to opt out of non-productive state requirements in order to better focus scarce resources toward the educational needs of their individual districts.

Thanks to Kim, school districts and education service districts are subject to performance audits which helps keep funding directed toward student success in the classroom. Kim also sponsored legislation to give support to those schools that successfully reduce their dropout rates so more kids are graduating from high school. Kim knows from personal experience that when it comes to education, "one size" definitely does not fit all, and that every parent should be able to determine the best educational options for their children. Realizing that not every child is college-bound, Kim advocates for vocational training electives to help kids get a jump start on preparing their skills for the job market.
