Issue Position: Seniors

Issue Position

Rebecca Seawright will protect a senior's right to stay in their community, while improving their quality of life.

New York is becoming an ever-more expensive place to live and Rebecca understands the need for those who are on fixed incomes to not be priced out of their homes. Affordable housing is key to keeping our seniors in the neighborhood that they have lived in for decades. Rebecca will fight for New York City home rule on rent regulations, and for a Senior Citizen Rent Increase Exemption (SCRIE) that reflects the real cost of living. As Chair of the Board of Visitors of the CUNY School of Law, Rebecca will partner with the Law school and its students to bring free housing legal aid and forums to the 76th District. Rebecca will be a champion for improved quality of life for seniors by fighting against the proposed waste transfer station, to protect programs like the Elderly Pharmaceutical Insurance Coverage Program (EPIC), and protect community senior centers and meal programs from short-sighted budget cuts. Rebecca will fight for seniors to stay in our community and live vibrant lives.
