Issues: Abortion Marriage

Family values are near and dear to my heart. Marriage and children are God's gifts for strong societies, and both must be protected and defended as part of America's foundation. Marriage is biblically and historically defined as a union between one man and one woman, and that union is what needs to be protected today.

Though ideally all babies would be born into loving, secure families with strong marriages, I believe abortion is not the answer for those less fortunate. Abortion ends innocent life and disgraces America's moral fabric.

As a grandfather to three adopted children, I am an avid proponent of adoption in lieu of abortion. Two of these grandchildren come from Uganda, where my son and daughter-in-law worked for almost 6 years. The other grandchild came into our family through the Berks County foster care system. All three of them initially required intense nurturing, and they will always have unique bonding needs; but our family has been blessed by the privilege to pour our love into them and watch them grow and thrive as individuals and family members.

Strong societies begin with strong families, because families instill work ethics, provide our communities with volunteers, support our schools, start and manage our businesses, and grow our churches and charities. The 99th District owes its strength to its families and family values. As a District Representative, I would consider it my high honor to protect this gift.
