Issue Position: Medicaid Expansion

Issue Position

Access to health insurance coverage for 50,000 NH citizens was a bi-partisan priority, and the MET ensures stability to NH's budget.

The adoption of Medicaid expansion provides access to health insurance coverage for 50,000 New Hampshire citizens using federal funds that other wise would not be returned to NH. This bi-partisan, compromise legislation increases the number of residents insured, and accessing preventative care will lead to lower costs in the health care system. The NH Hospital Association, the Business and Industry Association (BIA) and the NH Medical Society are among those who endorsed Medicaid expansion in the state.

A second important bipartisan compromise, the Medicaid Enhancement Tax (MET) implements an agreement with 25 New Hampshire hospitals and settles the court case brought about because of legislative changes made during 2011. The agreement will ensure stability to NH's budget and provide continued health care services to NH citizens.
