Doug Owens Calls for New Leadership at Veterans Affairs

Fourth Congressional District candidate Doug Owens took a stand for Utah's veterans today by calling on President Obama to immediately demand Eric Shinseki's resignation as Secretary of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.

The ongoing investigation into Veterans Affairs facilities continues to produce evidence that the Department intentionally covered up treatment waiting periods in a coordinated attempt to make the Department appear more efficient. Recent reports indicate that Veterans Affairs is currently saddled with a backlog of 300,000 individual cases, some of which are taking more than a year to process.

"The brave men and women who defend our country deserve better. Each and every veteran who relies on the Department of Veterans Affairs for treatment should have complete confidence that they will receive the best and most timely care possible," said Doug Owens.

"It is clear that the Department of Veterans Affairs is in dire need of sweeping reform. It is also clear that Eric Shinseki is ill-equipped to lead that effort," Owens stated. "The Department of Veterans Affairs needs new leadership now. I call on President Obama to immediately demand Eric Shinseki's resignation as Secretary of the Department of Veterans Affairs."
