Issue Position: Increase Transparency to Make Government More Accountable to Taxpayers

Issue Position

The framers of the Texas constitution understood the relationship between people and government when they wrote in 1845: "All political power is inherent in the people and all free governments are founded on their authority and instituted for their benefit." Simply put, government works FOR the people, not the other way around.

That is why Glenn sponsored House Bill 3430 in 2007 that created a searchable online database providing public access to all state government expenditures, allowing citizens to hold government accountable. During its implementation, Comptroller Susan Combs set a high bar in the area of increased government transparency and Glenn looks forward to building on her accomplishments at all levels of government.

This approach will be especially helpful in local government where debt has been piling up, essentially unchecked, for too long. Texans are proud to be ranked first in job creation, but our state is also ranked #2 in local debt. By shining the light on this issue, Glenn hopes to defuse a ticking time bomb of indebtedness that could undermine the Texas Miracle.
