Governor Hassan Statement on the Reported Release of Meriam Ibrahim

Statement

Date: June 23, 2014
Location: Concord, NH

Governor Maggie Hassan issued the following statement after the reported release of Meriam Ibrahim from death row:

"I am very heartened by the news that Meriam Ibrahim and her children will reportedly be released from Sudanese custody and reunited with her husband and Granite Stater, Daniel Wani, and we all hope that the family will soon be allowed to come to New Hampshire. Our nation was founded on the principle that freedom of religion is one of our most basic and important human rights, and thanks to the diplomatic efforts of so many, including New Hampshire's congressional delegation, this unjust, unconscionable abuse of Meriam Ibrahim's fundamental right has reportedly been resolved."
