Shaheen, Ayotte Statement on Meriam Ibrahim

Statement

Date: June 27, 2014
Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Senators Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) and Kelly Ayotte (R-NH) have learned from the State Department that Meriam Ibrahim was released on bail from police detention in Sudan, and that the family - Daniel Wani, of Manchester, and the children - has left the police station. However, charges related to her travel documents remain pending against Ms. Ibrahim, and the State Department remains engaged in the situation. Shaheen and Ayotte released the following statement:

"We are glad that Meriam has been released from detention and that the family has left the police station. This is a step in the right direction, and we will continue to work closely with Mr. Wani and the State Department to ensure that Ms. Ibrahim and her children are brought quickly and safely to the United States."
