U.S. Rep Todd Rokita participated in a House Republican Conference meeting to elect a new House Majority Leader, the 2nd highest position in House leadership. Current House Majority Whip, Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), was elected as House Majority Leader. In April, McCarthy, at Rokita's invitation, recently visited Indiana and toured the 4th District.
Due to the selection of McCarthy, a second election for House Majority Whip was held and Representative Steve Scalise (R-LA) was elected.
Rokita issued the following statement following their wins.
"I congratulate Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy and Majority Whip Scalise on their victories today. I look forward to continue working with both of them in their new roles. I know both will continue to listen to the Hoosier delegation as we represent the interests of Indiana and our nation in Congress," said Rokita.
