As a mother of three children that attended Montgomery County public schools, Aruna understands the important role an investment in public schools play in our community, economy, and future. Serving on the Ways & Means Education sub-committee, she has shaped policies to make Maryland public schools #1 in the nation.

Throughout her tenure in office, Aruna has been an unfailing advocate of progress in our education system. There is no greater asset to our future than our children, and no greater investment than in their education. Aruna has supported legislation strengthening the funding our public education system that ensure we continue to invest in our future and not consent to short-term economic pressures.

Aruna understands college affordability is critical for every family and while serving in the Maryland General Assembly, Maryland has held tuition to low single digit increases even in a tough budget years.

However, it is not enough just to push for quality of education, there needs to be equality in education. We need to ensure we provide the resources necessary so that all of our children can develop the skills needed to make our economy productive. A good education should not be viewed as a privilege for only those that can afford it, but as a right, accessible to everyone. Aruna will work to ensure pre-K programs are funded to ensure all children are adequately prepared as they embark on education endeavors K-12 and beyond.
