Issue Position

I support proven, results-oriented, faith-based initiatives and fostering more charitable work to lessen the burden on and role of government.

Local communities are the fabric of our nation. In my experience as mayor of Shelby, North Carolina, I have seen first-hand the powerful results of people helping people, and neighbors helping neighbors. I will defend our strong American civil society, where charitable organizations, civic groups, and churches play an active role.

Tragically, the most recent chapter in American history has been marked by division. The forces of class warfare, racial conflict, and identity politics have pitted Americans against each other. I will work to heal our nation through the restoration of unity among all people, regardless of race, gender, or background.

I support proven, results-oriented, faith-based initiatives and fostering more charitable work to lessen the burden on and role of government. Not only is this a more compassionate approach, but more efficient: While government anti-poverty programs funnel only 30 cents of every dollar to beneficiaries, private charities do much better, delivering on average 70 cents of each donated dollar to people in need.

I will defend against attempts to denigrate and erase the positive influence of our Judeo-Christian foundation and moorings, which have set our country apart

I support self-help and locally oriented economic development and neighborhood revitalization initiatives like the "Main Street" program, local farm-to-market initiatives, agritourism, heritage tourism, farmers markets, preservation and rehabilitation projects, and the hand-made arts/crafts industry self-directed initiatives that build upon our great state's natural and existing assets. I believe that the American people are capable of once again leading the world in economic growth if given the opportunity. (I just can't stand lost opportunity!)
