Cramer Votes to Restore COLA Reductions for Veterans

Press Release

oday Congressman Kevin Cramer voted for a bill to eliminate planned reductions to veterans benefits. Future reductions to the cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) for working-age military retirees are scheduled to begin December 1, 2015. Under the plan approved in the House today, the COLA would only apply to those who joined the Armed Services on or after January 1, 2014.

"While the need to reduce our debt and deficit is urgent, it is unacceptable to make these reductions on the backs of men and women who served our country and were promised this benefit. I am hopeful the Senate will follow our lead and pass this important fix for our military veterans," said Cramer.

The plan pays for the restored benefits by applying the mandatory sequester spending cuts contained in the Balanced Budget and Emergency Deficit Control Act of 1985 for an additional year, fiscal year 2024.
