Pingree Votes Against Bill that Limits Women's Healthcare Options

Statement

Date: Jan. 28, 2014
Issues: Women Abortion

Congresswoman Chellie Pingree issued the following statement after voting against a bill that would limit access for women to health insurance that covers abortion services, even coverage paid for with an individual's private dollars. The bill passed the House by a vote of 227-188.

"This is just another way Republicans are trying to make it harder for women to have control over their own health care and another attempt to roll back the Affordable Care Act.

It's already against the law to use taxpayer money on abortion coverage--what the bill really does is impose a penalty on small businesses that provide comprehensive health care coverage. And it would end up making it virtually impossible for women who buy insurance through the health care exchange to even spend their own private money on a policy that includes abortion coverage."
