Fleming on New Pick to Oversee Healthcare.Gov

Statement

Date: Dec. 18, 2013
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman John Fleming, M.D., released the following statement after the White House announced the appointment of a former Microsoft executive to oversee the healthcare.gov website:

"When you're in way over your head, it's OK to ask for help. That's what the Obama Administration has done by bringing in a former Microsoft executive. It's an admission that government bureaucrats were incapable of standing up and running the Obamacare website. That should be a lesson. If they couldn't handle the website, is there really any chance that Obamacare itself will be successful?

"The "management advice' that Kurt DelBene should give President Obama is to scrap all of Obamacare. Putting health care under government control, and then calling in the private sector to try to fix the mess that results, is not the way to go. Millions of Americans no longer care about the functionality of the website when they've lost health care coverage they liked, or are getting sticker shock from Obamacare's soaring premiums, higher deductibles and increased out-of-pocket expenses. It's time to address the real and serious problems of Obamacare."
