Today, Representative Tim Walz (D-Minn.) was named the Transportation Advocate of the Year by the Minnesota Transportation Alliance. As a member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, Walz has consistently advocated for creating a 21st century infrastructure system that will improve safety, create jobs, and help local communities and businesses grow and prosper.

"I am honored and humbled to receive this award," Walz said. "Minnesotans and all Americans deserve a reliable, innovative transportation system that works to ease congestion, increase safety, and, in turn, allow local communities and businesses to grow and prosper. As we move forward, we must continue to have the vision and foresight to make these worthwhile, long-term investments and build the coalitions that are necessary to create a 21st century infrastructure system right here at home."

"Congressman Walz consistently speaks out for transportation projects that his constituents need to reach their destinations safely," said Don Elwood, Transportation Alliance President. "He understands that much of our infrastructure -- built after World War II -- is reaching the end of its life and has to be rebuilt for a new century with new business opportunities in Southern Minnesota. His leadership has been critical for building support and developing solutions to our transportation challenges."

In naming Walz the Transportation Advocate of the Year, the Minnesota Transportation Alliance cited Walz's strong advocacy for critical infrastructure projects such as Highway 14 and the Winona Bridge.
