Griffin: Senate Should Pass "Critical' Funding Bills

Statement

Congressman Tim Griffin (AR-02) issued the following statement regarding his ongoing effort to reopen the federal government:

"President Obama and Democratic Senate Leader Harry Reid wanted a government shutdown for political purposes and refused even to talk. Now we are making progress as the president and congressional leaders are meeting, and House Republican funding bills give Democrats another opportunity to do the right thing and reopen government. They should join us in funding critical programs like cancer research and help us reopen national parks and museums."

Today, the House passed the Open Our National Parks and Museum Act (H.J.Res. 70), which provides immediate funding for (1) National Park Service Operations, (2) the Smithsonian Institution, (3) the National Gallery of Art, and (4) the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum at the same rate and under the same conditions as in effect at the end of the just completed fiscal year.

It also passed the Research for Lifesaving Cures Act (H.J.Res. 73), which provides immediate funding for the National Institutes of Health at the same rate and under the same conditions as in effect at the end of the just completed fiscal year.
