Lummis Secures House Passage of Enzi Bill Transferring Powell Gun Range

Press Release

Date: Sept. 10, 2013
Location: Washington, DC

Today U.S. Representative Cynthia Lummis joined an overwhelming majority of her House colleagues in passing S. 130, legislation introduced by U.S. Senator Mike Enzi that transfers 322 acres outside of Powell from the Bureau of Land Management to the Powell Recreation District. The land houses a shooting range currently operated by the Powell Recreation District. The District will continue to use the land as a gun range as it has since 1980.

U.S. Senator Mike Enzi secured Senate passage of S. 130 on June 19, 2013. Rep. Lummis arranged for S. 130's consideration by the House Natural Resources Committee on July 19, when she spoke in strong support of the bill. On July 24, the Resources Committee passed the legislation by voice vote. Since the bill was approved by the full House today by a vote of 408 to 1, it now goes to the President for his signature.

"I was very glad to help Senator Enzi secure this land for the Powell Recreation District, which is already responsible for the operation and upkeep of the range," said Rep. Lummis. "This will ensure that Powell citizens have continued access to the gun range as they have for more than 30 years. What's more, we are relieving the federal government of a property that it has no interest in managing."
