Griffin: "We Need a Smart, New Approach' for Job-Seekers

Congressman Tim Griffin (AR-02) issued the following statement after House passage of the Supporting Knowledge and Investing in Life Skills (SKILLS) Act (H.R. 803):

"Like most Arkansans, I know we can't afford more of Washington's artificial, top-down approach to job creation, which dictates policies that have been tried and failed for decades. We need a smart, new approach that saves taxpayers' money by targeting ineffective and duplicative programs and removing obstacles so folks have better access to a network of job-training services. The SKILLS Act does just that, and I am proud to support it."

H.R. 803 would eliminate 35 ineffective and duplicative programs, many of which were identified in a 2011 report by the nonpartisan U.S. Government Accountability Office. It would also create a flexible Workforce Investment Fund so that workers, employers, and job-seekers have a single, dedicated resource they can turn to for help.
