As the son of two teachers, John firmly believes that the key to long-term success as a nation is a world-class public education system. In order to create jobs and build a 21st century economy for our state and nation, we need to train our students for the science and technology jobs of the future.

John supports high standards for all of our students -- with an emphasis on math, science, and technology -- to prepare the next generation of workers to compete in a global economy.

World-class schools require us to have quality teachers in the classroom. John supports giving our schools the resources to provide teachers with the tools they need to be successful in raising the achievement levels of all students. In a highly competitive global economy, higher education is more important than ever.

John supports federal standards that empower local schools to make decisions based on what's best for the children of their community.

John supported legislation to prevent student loan interest rates from doubling this past summer.

As Lieutenant Governor, John created Delaware's "Models of Excellence in Education" program, which focused on training strong principals and making sure that good teachers got the resources they need to succeed.
