Issue Position: Health Care

Issue Position

The federal government may have the best intentions to help the people of this nation with their healthcare needs. But should we govern by good intentions, or what is lawful and constitutional?

Self governance includes our ability to make individual choices about our health care needs without federal government intervention. Free market solutions are what work best. The free market system will create an atmosphere of competition between insurance companies across the nation helping to lower the costs, and subsequently reducing healthcare costs.

"Good intentions will always be pleaded for every assumption of authority. It is hardly too strong to say that the Constitution was made to guard the people against the dangers of good intentions. There are men in all ages who mean to govern well, but they mean to govern. They promise to be good masters, but they mean to be masters." -- Daniel Webster

"With respect to the two words "general welfare,' I have always regarded them as qualified by the detail of powers connected with them. To take them in a literal and unlimited sense would be a metamorphosis of the Constitution into a character which there is a host of proofs was not contemplated by its creators."
-- James Madison
