Yoder Backs Bill to Return Jobs to America

Press Release

Date: July 5, 2012
Issues: Taxes

Shelli Yoder, the Democratic candidate for the 9th congressional district, today announced her support for legislation pending in Congress that would cut taxes for companies that bring jobs and business operations back to America from other countries. The initiative, sponsored by Senator Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) and Representative Bill Pascrell (D-NJ), also closes tax loopholes that reward companies that send jobs outside the country.

Yoder said, "This is a commonsense approach to return jobs to America and to the 9th district. This law will give businesses sufficient incentive to recall jobs and bring them back to our country." Yoder added, "My opponent is silent on this step forward for Hoosier families."

The bill, known as the "Bring Jobs Home" Act, would amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to encourage job creation here and to discourage sending jobs to foreign countries. If passed, the law would give eligible firms a tax credit equal to 20 percent of the cost of relocating overseas jobs back to the U.S.

"There is no more important issue than jobs for Hoosier families, and the Bring Jobs Home Act can do just that for Indiana by reversing the incentives that encourage companies to send jobs elsewhere," Yoder said. "The return of solid, middle-class jobs to America is critical to make our economy strong again," said Yoder. "This law will provide the shot in the arm necessary to return prosperity to the United States."

"I challenge Todd Young to sign onto the Bring Jobs Home Act as a co-sponsor," Yoder said.

Yoder's key issues in her campaign for Congress are creating jobs and expanding economic opportunity for all Hoosier families. Her plan includes increased opportunities for worker training, funding for health-research initiatives, and investing in infrastructure and green technologies. Yoder is running to unseat Todd Young in the general election on November 6, 2012. For more information on Yoder's candidacy, please go to www.shelliyoderforcongress.com.
