"My history of defending traditional marriage is a long one. As a state Senator I was an early supporter of Jim Forrester's bills introduced in the state Senate in 1996 and 2004 and am a supporter of the enforcement of the Defense of Marriage Act as enacted by the federal government. I wholeheartedly support the constitutional amendment that would provide that marriage between one man and one woman is the only domestic legal union that shall be valid or recognized in North Carolina."
