Griffin Votes to Dismantle Key Parts of ObamaCare as Part of Bipartisan Payroll Tax Cut Agreement

Statement

Congressman Tim Griffin (AR-02) issued the following statement after House passage of the Middle Class Tax Relief and Job Creation Act of 2012 (H.R. 3630):

"There are a number of reasons to vote for this bill and several reasons to vote against it. I am concerned about its impact on the deficit, but, on the whole, I believe the good outweighs the bad: This bipartisan agreement repeals key parts of the President's flawed health care law, protects seniors on Medicare by making sure they have access to quality health care and ensures Arkansans keep more of their hard-earned income. It also reforms federal unemployment benefits and welfare, allowing states to administer drug tests as a prerequisite to receiving taxpayer dollars and curbing the potential for welfare benefits to be abused."

The Middle Class Tax Relief and Job Creation Act of 2012 extends the payroll tax cut through December 31, 2012 and covers the cost of extending unemployment benefits in part by requiring new civilian federal employees and Members of Congress to contribute more towards their defined benefit pension programs.
