Issue Position: Veterans

Issue Position

I have a deep appreciation for our service people and veterans. The freedoms and prosperity we enjoy in America are due in large part to the millions of brave men and women who have served--or are currently serving--in our armed forces. That is why as Lieutenant Governor, I was instrumental in supporting the creation and construction of the Delaware Veterans Home in Milford, which opened in 2007. I also signed a proclamation in support of the "Helmets to Hardhats" federal program, which provided returning veterans opportunities to learn trade skills. Caring for our veterans should be a major part of our military policy. These courageous men and women have made enormous sacrifices for our country -- and their service should never be forgotten. I look forward to working with my colleagues in Congress to help the soldiers returning from Iraq and Afghanistan by connecting them with educational and employment options, and ensuring their health care needs are met.
