On the first official day of what portends to be a very active 2011 Hurricane Season, Congressman Jeff Landry (R, LA-03) is urging his constituents to be prepared for hurricanes.

"The recent flooding events demonstrated the need for preparedness. Now is the time to check your insurance policies, look into the National Flood Insurance Program, stock emergency items, check generators, and make evacuation plans that consider different landfall scenarios," said Landry. "A little preparation can save time, money, and lives."

Congressman Landry also suggested that his constituents consider taking pictures of their homes, its contents, and their other valuables. "It's always a good idea to have your important papers and documents in one place and ready to take with you in the case of an evacuation," said Landry.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration has forecasted a very active season with up to 18 named storms, 10 hurricanes and possibly 6 major hurricanes. Already today, there is a tropical disturbance crossing Florida that is projected to enter the Gulf of Mexico.
