Lauded for Conservative Voting Record

U.S. Rep. Mike Coffman (R-Aurora) has been honored by the American Conservative Union (ACU) and was presented with an award this week for his conservative voting record during the second session of the 111th Congress.

"I'm honored to be recognized by the American Conservative Union for fighting to promote the principles of limited government and fiscal responsibility," Coffman said.

Eligibility for the award is based on how Members of Congress vote on a broad range of issues including taxes, wasteful government spending, cultural issues, defense and foreign policy.

"This Defender of Liberty Award is a reflection of Congressman Coffman's outstanding record in support of conservative principles on a wide range of issues of concern to grassroots conservatives in 2010 and someone to whom conservatives can turn to for leadership. At a challenging time when the fundamental principles of the American system of government are being challenged, Congressman Coffman stands with those who are trying to preserve those principles," said Al Cardenas, chairman of the ACU.

The ACU scored Congress on 24 House votes in 2010, including financial regulatory overhaul, unemployment benefits extension, and healthcare reform bills. The Defender of Liberty Award is only given to those members of Congress who score a perfect 100 percent
