Congressman Landry's Statement on Tonight's Debt Ceiling Vote

Statement

Date: May 31, 2011
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Jeff Landry (R, LA-03) released the following statement regarding tonight's vote to reject a standalone increase in the debt ceiling:

"Washington should not force the generations of tomorrow to pay for yesterday's budgetary problems. I voted today against the debt ceiling because I will not sell the future of our children and grandchildren in order to keep kicking tough decisions down the road. The federal government is far too large, spends far too much, and wastes far too much of what it spends. I firmly believe that we must end the beltway's addiction to spending now. Over the past two years, President Obama and congressional Democrats have overseen the largest budget deficits in U.S. history. Today, the buck stops here."
