Fleming Chosen for Two Armed Services Subcommittees

Statement

Date: Jan. 24, 2011
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman John Fleming announced today that he has been selected to serve on two House Armed Services subcommittees. Fleming will sit on the Subcommittee on Strategic Forces and the Subcommittee on Tactical Air and Land Forces.

"The jurisdictions of these subcommittees are critical to the long term viability of the Air Force and Army missions in my district at Barksdale and Fort Polk," said Fleming. "In light of looming cost-cutting measures across the Department of Defense and the rest of the government, it is more important than ever before that Congress ensures our armed forces are receiving maximum value for the taxpayer resources it invests."

"I look forward to using my role on the Armed Services Committee to shape those decisions, especially as the Air Force looks towards developing and fielding a next generation bomber and other long range strike capabilities," continued Fleming "In the meantime, over the next decade, we have to continue modernizing and upgrading our B-52 and B-2 fleet to meet the global deterrence mission and protect US interests at home and abroad."

"I am excited to see Congressman Fleming return to the Armed Services Committee, and know he will bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to his work on these important subcommittees. As a former Naval Officer and Representative of two of our nation's premier military installations, John understands first-hand the importance of ensuring our military remains the strongest in the world," said Rep. Howard P. "Buck" McKeon (R-Calif.), the Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee.

About the Subcommittees:
