Advancing Stem Cell Research

Statement

Date: Sept. 24, 2010

Stem cell research has shown great promise with the potential to save lives. I'm cosponsoring a bill that will allow this research to continue being performed responsibly and comply with a recent federal court ruling. The Stem Cell Research Advancement Act will require that the embryonic stem cells come from excess supply at fertility clinics that would have otherwise been discarded.

The bill represents a commonsense solution that will allow doctors and scientists to perform cutting-edge research to continue to lead the fight to cure Alzheimer's, cancer, and countless other conditions. I'm urging my colleagues in the Senate to quickly pass this bill so we can continue this vital research without delay.
