Issues: Defense

The creation of a military to protect our nation and its' shores is one of the greatest responsibilities of the federal government. It is the main reason that the colonies switched from the Articles of Confederation to a more balanced form of Constitutional Republic. Unfortunately, many of the current politicians are too blinded by special interests such as protecting American "corporate interests" overseas while bases here at home have been shut down left and right, leaving our homes , skies, and shores unprotected.

The generation of World War II paid the ultimate price in the sacrifice of liberty with thousands of brave men and women giving their lives to stand against the forces of tyranny prevailing in Europe and Japan. War was declared, war was fought, and the war was won.

And in a shining example of the American spirit, we not only paid the costs of the war, but also paid to rebuild the war-torn countries of Europe. And yet after all this, we are still paying sums in the millions of dollars per year to maintain a military force throughout Europe. Are the Germans not capable of their own defense? How much further in debt will our politicians put our future generations so that the people of Europe, Japan, Asia, Africa, South America et. al can put off the responsibility of their own defense?

How much longer will we "fight them over there so we don't have to fight them over here."? How much sense does it make to lock your car doors when it's parked in the street, and yet leave the front door of your house wide open while you're out-of-town? How many of you fathers feel the best method for you to protect your family and home would be to leave and try to fight the drug lords in Mexico, or street gangs in L.A., or bank robbers in Chicago? Would it not be best for you to protect your home by being well armed and actually being at home? We must provide our men and women in uniform with the very best so they can be as safe as possible while fulfilling their duty in protecting our country. And it is time for our National Defense to mean just that: defending our nation. Protecting our shores. Keeping Americans safe.

Article 1 Section 8.12 (The Congress shall have power…) To raise and support armies, but no appropriation of money to that use shall be for a longer term than two years;
