Issue Position

I believe the family is the basis of society. When it is broken, then society is broken. Today, the family has deteriorated into a splintered, fractioned entity that results in hurt, pain and a hazardous life for all involved. Our children are not the only ones that suffer; our nation is suffering. Our tax codes and our legislation must be family friendly. I believe we must engage in a more intentional way to work towards restoring the family by working with the churches and organizations that value family as the nucleus of society.

I support the traditional definition of marriage as a God-ordained, legal and moral commitment between a man and a woman, and I believe that marriage is the foundational unit of a healthy society. I believe in the sanctity of marriage and that the integrity of this institution should be defended, protected, strengthened, and nurtured at all levels of government. I urge the repeal of laws that place an unfair tax burden on families, including the marriage penalty tax. I believe that each individual family has the primary responsibility for its own welfare, including education, moral training, and conduct.
