Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Conservative

Today, U.S. Representative Martin Heinrich (NM-1) advocated for safeguarding our public lands for future generations during the House Subcommittee On National Parks, Forests And Public Lands legislative hearing on H.R. 3339, the Federal Land Transaction Facilitation Act (FLTFA). Heinrich introduced H.R. 3339 in July 2009 to allow the Bureau of Land Management, the U.S. Forest Service, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and the National Park Service in the western United States to continue to use the proceeds from sales of certain federally designated areas to protect lands of exceptional conservation value.

"In my home state of New Mexico, FLTFA has funded critical acquisitions like the Elk Springs Area of Critical Environmental Concern and La Cienega Area of Critical Environmental Concern," said Heinrich. "Because of FLTFA, these areas will be protected for future generations of New Mexicans. As a sportsman, I especially appreciate FLTFA's role in protecting critical wildlife habitat. Outdoor recreation is an important part of New Mexico's economy, and FLTFA helps us preserve the beautiful places that draw visitors from around the world."
