Governor Ceremonially Signs Bill Allowing Pharmacists to Administer Immunizations

Governor John E. Baldacci today ceremonially signed LD 1223, An Act To Allow Pharmacists To Administer Certain Immunizations.

The law allows pharmacists who have met certain requirements to administer a number of vaccines, including influenza vaccine, pneumococcal vaccine, tetanus-diphtheria-pertussis vaccine and others.

"This bill expands access to important preventive health care services," Governor Baldacci said. "In particular, I know the Maine Center for Disease Control supports the efforts to provide influenza vaccines to as many people as possible. I am pleased to sign this bill into law."

Governor Baldacci was joined at the ceremonial signing by bill sponsor Rep. George Hogan (D-Old Orchard Beach), co-sponsors and supporters of the legislation.
