Issue Position: Health Care

All North Dakotans benefit when each person has access to affordable quality health care. Yet health care has become unaffordable for an increasing number of North Dakota families and small businesses. We need a North Dakota solution to secure our health in a healthy economy.

As Governor I will:

- Provide all North Dakota children with health insurance.
Approximately 14,000 children in the state do not have health insurance. I will make sure they get it by expanding the ND Healthy Steps program (CHIP). There is no excuse for having even one uninsured child in our state.

- Prevention and wellness.

We need to shift our focus from sick care back to health care. That means implementing school and community based programs that teach people how to live a healthy lifestyle. It also means promoting insurance plans that pay the full cost of preventative care, including regular doctor's checkups.

-Coordinate a program to lower the cost of health care for all North Dakotans.

I have believed all my life that we can always do things better when we work together. This also applies to purchasing health care. As governor, I will create a program that helps uninsured North Dakotans connect with each other to purchase private health care at bulk rates. This small step will make private health care affordable to many who currently can't afford to buy it at the current single or family rates.
