Congressman Mike Rogers said today that the Department of Justice should soon provide $58,133 in Federal funding to help support the Calhoun-Cleburne Joint Drug Task Force, funds Rogers said he secured in an appropriations bill last year.

Rogers said securing the funding, which was included in H.R. 2764, the Consolidated Appropriations Bill for Fiscal Year 2008, was one of his top East Alabama homeland security priorities. He said the funding should help support law enforcement officials in their efforts to combat illegal drugs in East Alabama.

"Methamphetamines are a plague on our rural communities and devastating to our families. I am delighted the Calhoun-Cleburne Drug Task Force will receive these funds, and hope they will help our local law enforcement officials keep our communities safe," said Rogers, a member of the Homeland Security Committee.

Rogers said the funds, which were included in last year's H.R. 2764 will be administered through the Department of Justice for combating drug related crimes.

Rogers serves on the Homeland Security Committee, the Armed Services Committee and the Agriculture Committee.
